Let’s celebrate the coming of Spring by giving our scarves away…
One of the volunteers from our community is collecting scarves for children at Red Cross Childrens hospital.
The children need these as they move around the hospital from ward to ward to keep warm!
Please let us know if you have any and we will arrange to get them from you please email us on nicky@theschoolshop.co.za
Stunning example of home industry amongst parents…..
Take a look at the website www.cherryontop.co.za and see how Theresa Nothard has turned her passion for creative baking into a great home enterprise.
www.theschoolshop.co.za will be promoting many of these types of businesses on the site by providing inexpensive targeted advertising.

First stack of text books ready for posting on website!
We have received some great text books to list , great idea is to include the ISBN number so that the buyer can identify the book if they are searching for something from a list they have received from school.
Will keep you posted on new items that are piling up for listing

The gift of time …….
Driving home today I was angry at having to go and find masks for a dress up day at school. I had lots of other things to do before dinner time, so really going in search of masks was really the last thing on my list. Thanks King Cake for the cheap masks.
Wow, wake up!!……….. I am privileged to be able to have the time in the afternoon with my children, when so many working mom’s don’t have this luxury. Again I realised how spoilt my children are , they have me to themselves each afternoon to guide them through their homework, listen to them re-tell the events of the day(in painstaking details) and to keep them safe.
No matter how busy I am with my own work, I have the choice to spend time with them. This would be a wonderful gift to give all the mom’s I know.
Fruit or Flowers ?
With the first day of spring normally comes the scrounging for the one flower that my garden has produced to take to school in honour of Spring day.
Thankfully this year Parklands College Outreach thought about this and instead collected fruit to distribute amongst the children in our neighbouring schools. What a great idea! Many of the children attending schools in Cape Town are going to school hungry and with the economic situation the way it is, the feeding schemes are having to turn away learners that used to be taken care of by this wonderful initiative.
Great to see the Schools that have the means are supporting their community.
Lost Property -blazers, shoes,ties,hats !!
I beg to know why the lost property rooms at so many schools are full to capacity? Am I missing something?
When my children come home without their items of clothing etc I send them back to school without . I don’t rush off and buy new shoes that afternoon, I must be doing something unheard of, because when I see that you can clothe an entire grade of learners with the clothes in the lost property room, it makes me furious! When there are so many children going to school without , we happily flaunt our excesses.
I am going to challenge the Lost Property rooms to donate that excess!
Blazers and things
Talking to a friend at the gym this morning while trying to burn up some calories we were trying to swop blazers, from her eldest to her youngest, from her youngest to my youngest, my oldest to the second hand school shop…….. thats why we need this website!
Text Books Text Books Text Books
After listening to 567 Cape Talk yesterday afternoon and hearing again about learners that dont have sufficient text books, I am convinced that this category on our site is going to be a hit. Even if you dont want to sell your books on to the next grade of learners, if the book is still going to be used, you will be able to donate those books to us. I am really hoping that the courier companies that we are partnering with are going to be as excited about this as we are!
Take some time and listen to Soli Philanders show in the afternoon, he often raises community issues that affect us all. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/567-CapeTalk-TimeOut-with-Soli-Philander/95058818325?ref=ts
Welcome
Welcome! Watch with us as this idea comes to life over the next 3 or 4 weeks. It feels like forever that we have been working on this website and now finally the count down to weeks not months is in our sites.
Soon you will be able to visit www.theschoolshop.co.za and buy, sell and donate all those school items that you dread having to buy each term.
We will post regular updates on this blog and as the weeks unfold we will let you know how we are progressing in our quest to get all those unused school clothes, cricket kit, dance shoes, text books out of your cupboards and onto our site. We want to encourage everyone to start giving their unused school things a second life by selling them on and in this way getting them back into the system.
